Bio

John Picacio is one of the most acclaimed American artists in science fiction, fantasy, and horror publishing over the last decade. He illustrated the best-selling 2012 George R. R. Martin / A Song of Ice and Fire Calendar, and has created iconic cover art for major books by Michael Moorcock, Dan Simmons, Mark Chadbourn, Sheri S. Tepper, Lauren Beukes, Jeffrey Ford, Robert Silverberg, James Tiptree, Jr, and more, as well as the Star Trek and X-Men franchises.

Clients include Random House, Bantam, HarperCollins, Simon and Schuster, Scholastic, Pyr, Tor, Baen Books, Angry Robot, Subterranean Press, Popular Science, and more.

He is the owner of Lone Boy, a media company housing his creator-owned art ventures, including the forthcoming Loteria, featuring 54 new Picacio artworks.

Fans of tarot and card games should not miss “LOTERIA!” on Friday at Norwescon, as Hugo Award-winning artist John Picacio will host several rounds of this fun, easy-to-learn, and fast-moving game of Mexican Bingo. Everyone who attends will receive a free collectible Mexican Tarot card featuring Picacio art. Winners of each game will score fabulous book and art prizes. Fans of Michael Moorcock and all things sword-and-sorcery should not miss “The Art of Elric” on Saturday at Norwescon as John Picacio, Michael Moorcock, and Robert Gould present the best art across the history of Moorcock’s legendary anti-hero Elric of Melnibone. Artists included in this slideshow are Michael Whelan, Brom, Yoshitaka Amano, P. Craig Russell, and many, many more. Picacio, Moorcock, and Gould will provide live commentary on the visuals.
