The Norwescon Speculative Film Festival is a celebration of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and other speculative fiction films. The festival will take place on the evenings of Thursday, April 14 and Friday, April 15th, 2022.

Norwescon’s Speculative Film Fest wants to embrace and foster new voices in Speculative Fiction, including those of BIPOC, women, and LGBTQ+ creators. We will have judges who represent these voices, and we have created a waiver program so BIPOC directors may apply to submit their works to the festival at no charge. Please complete this form to apply for the waiver.

Filmmakers of the films selected to play at Norwescon’s Speculative Fiction Film Fest will be invited to attend Norwescon 44 and will receive complimentary entrance for the day their film is shown. Travel and lodging is not included.

Attending filmmakers will be able to speak to the audience directly through Q&As following their film screenings.

Selected works can win in several categories of Speculative Film Fest.

  • Jury award for Best Micro Short Film (under 3 minutes)
  • Jury award for Best Short Film (under 30 minutes)
  • Audience Choice Award (voted on by attendees)

Each award winning film will receive an award laurel graphic. Winners will be announced during the last day of the convention. The award-winning entries will be selected by the festival jury and audience votes. Judging decisions are final.
