Single Pattern Contest

Simplicity 2806 Simplicity 1750 Save the World with a personalized re-usable shopping bag! Try making this bag from re-purposed or recycled materials! Maybe your bag will be made of plastic grocery bags, or those pants you know you’ll never fit into again, or a superhero t-shirt—the sky is the limit! This year’s Single Pattern Contest pattern is Simplicity 2806.

March 11 Update: Now choose from TWO patterns! It has come to our attention that Simplicity 2806 is no longer available in local fabric stores, although it may still be available online. Entrants may now use either Simplicity 2806 OR Simplicity 1750.

The Single Pattern Contest is an annual art competition at Norwescon. Entrants each start with the year’s selected pattern, and create a one-of-a-kind item using that pattern as the starting point. All members of the convention are eligible to compete. There is no entry fee.

Rules

  1. One entry per person.
  2. You must have a Norwescon 36 membership to enter.
  3. All entries must be based on Simplicity 2806. Minor creative design changes are permitted—for example: alteration of overall size, number and placement of pockets, embellishments—as long as the overall silhouette is recognizable as being derived from this pattern.
  4. Materials, techniques, and embellishments are entirely up to you, with the exception of messy or perishable substances.
  5. Entries can be submitted for judging or not (non-competing entries are welcome).
  6. Awards will be handed out to entrants and may be announced at the Masquerade half-time show on Saturday.
  7. Some display space will be available. More information to come.
  8. All entries will be photographed as part of the judging for our archives, and may be published online, in future publications, or used as part of a video presentation.
