Services

Norwescon provides a number of services for its members. These areas include ADA/Disability Services, Hospitality, Lobby Tables, and other areas. Look back here as we have more information to share with you as we approach the convention.

Announcement by: Shawn Marier, Norwescon 29 Chairman

I regret to inform you that Norwescon 29 will not be offering KidKon to our attendees. This is not something that the executive team or myself wanted, but something we have to do. In recent years the insurance requirements put on childcare, and any events catering to children, have dramatically increased. It has reached the point that Norwescon can no longer operate KidKon. This is not something that I wanted; as I was looking forward to allowing my son to enjoy all the events and activities offered at KidKon.

We will work with the hotel to provide a list of licensed daycare and babysitters in the area available for parents. We will also continue to have programming which will be child-friendly; but an adult will need to attend the programming with the child, as per our current rules for children attending the convention.

We hope that you will understand the difficult position we have been place in and will work with us during this transition.

Hospitality

Look for hospitality in Olympic 3 and 4.

Norwescon Hospitality Menu Highlights

Thursday Submarine sandwiches.
Friday - Lunch Soup and sandwiches hosted by the Northwest Science Fiction Society.
Friday - Dinner Baked potato & nacho bar plus dessert buffet hosted by Anglicon.
Saturday - Lunch Salads and sandwiches.
Saturday - Dinner Night of Nibbles: Join us for hot and cold appetizers from around the world.
Sunday - Breakfast Hot cross buns: An Easter tradition.

Norwescon continues the tradition of having Hospitality hosted by local clubs and conventions. Join the following local organizations as they show you the best of northwest hospitality:

The Northwest Science Fiction Society hosts Norwescon's Hospitality Friday from 11:30 AM. to 2 PM . Please join them for NizzFizz punch as you decorate alien cookies.

Join Anglicon as they host a scrumptious dessert buffet Friday night from 7 PM to 10 PM. Sink your teeth, or fangs, into some luscious, decadent chocolate cakes or choose the way of the light with a fluffy Victorian sponge cake. Pies, cakes, crumbles, crisps, cookies, trifles and brownies will all be (dis)appearing that night. We hope to see you there!

ADA/Disability Services

Howdy all. Patrick M. Nash here, and I am the Disability Services Liaison for Norwescon 29. For those in need, I have some news that could be helpful.

This year, I am pleased to say, I have Mrs. Dana Marshall officially assisting me at the convention.

If you have any issues we can help you with, please contact us >through the Norwescon web page Disability Services. Washington State Law will be followed first, and then the ADA, depending on which law is the most lenient. Just point and click on disabilityservices at norwescon dot org .

The Doubletree has some kits available for use. They include:

  • Fire/phone strobe
  • Pillow vibrator for phone and alarm clock
  • TTY keyboard
  • Volume control for phone

If you are going to room at the Doubletree, please make your requests when you register.

The hotel has also coordinated, through an outside provider, rental of wheelchairs and electric scooters. If you have mobility issues, you may want to consider renting one of these. Rentals at the convention may be possible, but to assure you get what you need, you should call ahead. Rental price for a standard wheelchair is $15 per day, and scooter rentals are $50-$60 per day. Delivery fee is $25. To arrange rentals, please go through the hotel concierge and ask for John Nelson, between the hours of 6am to 2pm, Thursday thru Monday at (206) 246-8600 Ext. 4334.
