Finding Your Registration Confirmation and Barcode

This entry was published on March 15, 2013 and may be out of date. For the most current information on this year's Norwescon, please see our most recent blog posts. Thank you!

We understand that many of you are looking for the “receipt with barcode” mentioned in this morning’s News From Norwescon e-newsletter.

When you registered for Norwescon, if you paid online using PayPal, you should have received two emails.

The first, titled “Your registration for Norwescon 36”, should have confirmed that we had received your registration and that you would receive a notification letter when our staff had processed the payment.

The second email, titled “Norwescon 36 payment processed!”, should have notified you that we had successfully processed your payment. That email also included a long URL in the second paragraph. Clicking on that URL (which begins with the address http://cm.norwescon.org/…) should bring up your printable receipt, complete with bar code.

Some people who registered early (on Sunday at Norwescon 35) may have received a version of the second email with a malformed URL. If the URL in your email does not work, check to see if it begins with the address http://norwescon.orgconvention_master/…. If it does, please replace that string (everything up to and including the first single slash) with http://cm.norwescon.org/. Once that is done, the corrected link should work.

Don’t panic if you can’t find your second receipt email. There will be kiosks available at registration for you to print your barcode receipt. In such cases, it is probably a good idea to bring a print-out of your PayPal receipt to the convention with you, just in case.

If you have any further difficulties, please contact our registration department, and they will get back to you as soon as possible.

We sincerely apologize for any confusion this has caused.

  1. I registered for NWC 36 on the last day of NWC 35, and I have my receipt, but there is no barcode or URL of any kind. All it has is my name, the charge for $50 for the full NWC membership, and credit for my payment. Will I have a problem picking up my badge?

    Thank You.

  2. What conceivable purpose is there to make people who have paid and preregistered produce barcodes and then scan them? Is this to prove who they are? But you are already requiring the person to produce a photo ID.

Can you offer me one reason why the convention should not just check in in advance everyone who has paid and preregistered, print out their badges, and just hand the badge to the person at the event when they produce their photo ID?

This kind of barcode system makes sense if you are purchasing tickets to a ticketed event like a concert, and the printout at home replaces your ticket and serves as your identification. Norwescon is not that kind of event, and is checking every person’s ID anyway. WTF?

  3. I only received a e-mail from PayPal. (Stating a payment was sent to Norwescon)
I never received these 2 e-mails from Norwescon.
    How do I proceed?

  4. One more person with email receipts, but never received any email containing cm.norwescon.org or norwescon.orgconvention_master

  5. This is ridiculous I’ve been going to conventions large and small for over 40 years and never jumped through so many hoops. Your registration system was supposed to make things easier, not more difficult.

  6. Good Morning Everyone,

Rest assured you have been heard. If searching your email (including your SPAM folder) for the convention master strings
(http://cm.norwescon.org/ or http://norwescon.orgconvention_master/) does not yield a message allowing you to print your receipt with barcode (and thereby skip a line) you will still be able to print the barcode item from the registration kiosks at the convention.

There will be member-specific emails sent out no later than Monday with additional information. We’ll also be sending a registration process email to everyone on the eNewsletter list as a back-up.

  7. We paid for two memberships on Sunday at Norwescon. I received an email with a link that started with:

    aup_page.php?encryp_string=

Naturally, this did not work. Based on the links given on this page, I appended the cm.norwescon.org info at the beginning of that link, and got:

    ERROR
Encrypted string seems to be corrupted.

I never received any messages with either of the master strings.

  8. Good Evening Steve,

Registration is in the process of sending individual emails to everyone with a pre-paid membership. These emails will allow people to print their AUP w/barcode as outlined in yesterday’s news update http://tinyurl.com/bv326xz . If you have not received your copies by the evening of the 20th, please contact them directly.

    Thank you,

  9. I registered and got the email, but also registered my son, who is under 12 and — possibly because there was no charge for him — didn’t receive any email such as this. Will we get an individual email for him, or will we have to stand in line.

I must say that I’m with the others — it doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense to jump through these additional hoops. At the moment, it’s looking as if registration is going to be rather a pain in the ass, which is definitely not what I was hoping for when I preregistered.
